After missing out on the Rio Olympics, Parupalli Kashyap got back to winning ways as he registered two back-to-back wins in the qualifiers of the Japan Open Super Series on Tuesday to enter the main draw, where he will face Srikanth Kidambi in the first round.
In the first qualifier, Kashyap progressed as his opponent, Austria's David Obernosterer retired, during the first game. In the second match, the 30-year-old Kashyap downed fourth-seeded Anders Antonsen 21-18, 21-12 to progress to the main draw.
India's HS Prannoy, Ajay Jayaram and Sai Praneeth, all of whom recently competed in the Indonesian Open, will also be a part of the tournament.
However, the country will not have a representative in the women's draw after Tanvi Lad lost to Japan's Chisato Hoshi in a hard-fought three-game encounter in the qualifiers. Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu had earlier withdrawn from the event.
