Atletico de Kolkata were held 1-1 at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium by FC Goa in a contest that was high on drama with both teams creating a number of chances. Sameehg Doutie got the home team off to a excellent start with a brilliant goal.

Goa battled hard and equalised deep into the second half through Joffre's penalty, and thereby recording their first points of the Indian Super League season. Both sides had a man sent off in the game.

Kolkata played with tremendous early intensity early on. Even though it was a piece of magic from Doutie that got them in the lead, they were bombarding the Goa territory in numbers. The flipside to the high-voltage approach was that they were also giving away soft fouls and committing themselves into quite a few rash tackles.

Doutie lived up to his billing as one of the stars of the tournament with an expertly timed volley from the edge of the box to put his side in the lead. Goa were not perturbed by going behind and attacked confidently, creating two excellent chances in the space of minutes, just after Kolkata took the lead.

First, Matheus Trindade combined beautifully with Joffre with slick one-touch passes but the former's return ball was wayward. Then, Goncalves found himself through on goal but the brave Debjit Majumder came off his line to parry the shot away from point-blank range.

Goa continued to test Majumder but failed to find a way through in the first half. Robin Singh, whose touch failed him, had a disappointing outing in front of goal. On the other side of the break, Goa were handed a lifeline when Stephen Pearson was given his marching orders following a horrific two-footed challenge. Goa failed to capitalise on it and the game was down to a 10 vs 10 contest when defender Sanjay Balmuchu was handed a second yellow.

Kolkata dominated possession but ended up conceding a penalty against the run of play. Joffre made no mistake from the spot. Goa warded off any further Kolkata threat to get their first point of the season.
