A curling free-kick by Robert Lewandowski gave Bayern Munich a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid in their last Champions League Group D match on Tuesday night.
Both teams have already qualified for the knockout stage, with Atletico finishing as group leaders despite the loss.
Bayern have now won all 15 of their Champions League games at home. It was also Atlético’s first loss of the group stage.
Over in Group C, Lionel Messi scored as Barcelona romped to a 4-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach. It was Messi’s 10th group-stage goal this season, one less than Cristiano Ronaldo’s record 11 goals netted last season.
Arda Turan drilled in three goals for Barcelona, as they extended their lead in Group C despite playing without suspended Neymar and Ivan Rakitic and Luis Suarez, who was rested for the game.
Barcelona will be joined by Manchester City in the knockout stage from the group. City, who were already secured of second position played out a low-key 1-1 draw against Celtic at the Etihad stadium.
In Group A, Arsenal secured the top-spot as they rode on back of a hat-trick by Lucas Perez to win 4-1 over Basel.
Paris Saint-Germain were also vying for the top place in the group but could only manage a 2-2 draw against Ludogorets Razgrad.
Perez proved to be the star for Arsenal, as he scored two goals with simple tap-ins and then drilled in a shot from the edge of the box to complete his hat-trick. Alex Iwobi added a fourth before Seydou Doumbia gave Basel a consolation goal.
With PSG only managing a draw, Arsenal took the top-spot in the group, a first for them since 2011-’12.
The Parisian outfit in fact, just about managed to eke out a draw as Angel di Maria scored in injury time to save them the blushes.
PSG trailed twice in the game. Edinson Cavani helped them level the game at 1-1 with an overhead kick in the first half, before a 92nd-minute goal by Di Maria earned them the draw.
Meanwhile, Napoli beat Benfica 2-1, with both teams qualifying from Group B after Dynmo Kiev handed Besiktas a 6-0 thrashing.
In Group D, Rostov battled to a goalless draw against PSV Eindhoven, putting the Russians into the Europa League.
