Football or as we fondly call it the beautiful game, has seen dark days in its history. Goals and delightful football are always a treat to watch, but the other side of the game has seen its own indelible marks.

One such day, last week, was the Chapecoence FC air crash. The upcoming Brazilian club team was traveling to a football final but their plane crashed killing more than 70 people including 19 team players and staff of the team. Another air disaster that shook the world of football was the Munich Air disaster, which saw the ‘Bubsy Babes’, one of the more famous iterations of the Manchester United team, also crash in a horrific manner.

When a loss turns into a footballer’s life being taken, you know that the game isn’t being watched right. Colombia’s defender Andres Escobar scored an own goal to eliminate his side form the competition. Days later he was shot dead in a bar, sending the entire footballing world into mourning. Other disasters are the infamous Hillsborough disaster and the Estadio Nacional Disaster, which resulted in a loss of nearly 400 lives.
