India’s PV Sindhu came from a game down to beat Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi 12-21, 21-8, 21-15 to win her opening clash of the World Superseries finals in Dubai on Wednesday.
Sindhu got off to a poor start in the first game. Her Japanese opponent took control of the game early on and gave little away for Sindhu to claw her way back.
Sindhu though turned the tables in the second. She dominated Yamaguchi, who was made to stretch for each point. Sindhu quickly wrapped up the game to make it all square.
In the third, she ran away with the advantage early on and took a 11-7 lead at the change of ends. She did not let her advantage slip and closed the game with a six-point gap to claim victory.
Sindhu next faces China’s Sun Yu.
