Two World Cups, a Champions trophy, world No. 1 in Tests, world No. 1 in one-day cricket and, as an individual analysis, Dhoni was or rather is one of the deadliest finishers of the game. Born in Ranchi, Dhoni made his one-day debut on December 23 against Bangladesh in Chittagong. However, it was a nightmarish start for India’s future Captain Cool as he was out for a duck.
However, thanks to the Indian selectors and captain at the time, Sourav Ganguly, Dhoni got a long rope. And, boy, did it pay dividends. Dhoni has amassed over 9,000 one-day runs at an average of 50.89. His highest score of 183 not out came against Sri Lanka. However, he will be remembered for his maiden ODI century, when he struck 148 against arch-rivals Pakistan. Dhoni’s arrival ended India’s long search for a wicket-keeper who could also bat.
