The tables turned in Raipur on Sunday as defending champions Mumbai showed great tenacity to get their noses in front against Hyderabad at the end of day three of the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals. Left-arm spinner Vijay Gohil triggered a lower order collapse in the Hyderabad ranks.

Haryana batsmen’s steely top order display helped them blunt Jharkhand at Baroda, taking a slender 59-run lead at the close of play.

However, there were no question marks over who ruled the roost in Jaipur as Odisha’s inexperience was found out against Gujarat, who have now taken a 310-run lead. Gujarat’s in-form opener Priyank Panchal has now entered the all-time top run scorers’ charts en route to his knock of 81 in the second innings.

Mumbai turn the tables

Things looked rosy for Hyderabad at the end of the day two but Mumbai kept the foot on the pedal right from ball one. Tanmay Agarwal continued from where he left on Saturday. There was little resistance from the Hyderabad batsmen as Gohil wrapped up proceedings in no time.

Mumbai’s top order failed once again but skipper Aditya Tare’s fine showing in the match continued. Mumbai have a lead of 116. With the Hyderabad pacers showing good form, there is every chance that the pendulum can shift once again on the final day’s play.

Gujarat sit pretty

Gujarat opener Priyank Panchal now has 1120 runs this season, currently lying sixth in the all-time charts for top run-getters in a single season. After missing out in the first innings, Panchal scored a classy 81.

Panchal’s opening partner Samit Gohel, flayed the Odisha attack with an unbeaten 110 as Gujarat extended their lead to 310 with seven wickets in hand. Barring a collapse, Parthiv Patel and his men have more or less sealed a semi-final berth.
