Chennai City and bottom-placed Churchill Brothers played out a 1-1 draw in a feisty I-League encounter at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday.
Both sides went into the break at 0-0 with the half being punctuated by a flurry rash tackles. The deadlock was broken in the 63rd minute as Brandon Fernandes converted from an exquisitely taken free-kick. The hosts though hit back two minutes later through Charles De Souza to bring the game back to parity.
With time running out, Ansumana Kromah came close to ending the stalemate, but could only find the side-netting.
The result meant Chennai remained in seventh place with eight points, while Churchill are in eighth spot with six.
