Mohun Bagan moved level on points with arch-rivals East Bengal with a 3-1 win over DSK Shivajians in the I-League on Saturday at the Rabindra Sarobar stadium.

The Shivajians took the lead through Milan Singh in the 33rd minute. Mohun Bagan came back in the contest through a quick-fire brace from Balwant Singh just before half-time.

The home side sealed the tie through Katsumi Yusa’s penalty in the final minute of normal time.

Bagan went into the game, having drawn two of their previous games. They began the game on the back foot as Shivajians made early inroads into the Bagan box.

The visitors soon capitalised as Juan Quero slipping in a terrific through ball into the path of Milan Singh who bundled the ball into the net.

The Kolkata outfit were not bogged down by the deficit and attacked in numbers, coming back into the contest after Balwant met Pritam Kotal’s cross.

Balwant helped Bagan take the lead a couple of minutes later with Kotal once again being the provider. Balwant slammed the ball home on the volley after meeting Kotal’s quality cross from the right flank.

Shivajians’ Shane McFaul came close in the 81st minute, but the effort narrowly missed the target. The match was finally put to bed with Yusa sending Paul the wrong way.

Mohun Bagan have now accumulated 21 points, same as East Bengal, who have their noses in front on goal-difference.
