Manchester United will face FC Rostov of Russia in the Europa League round of 16, as the draw was announced on Friday.
Rostov were the lowest-ranked club in the draw according to the Uefa coefficients. This is their second season in Europe. Jose Mourinho’s side also got a first-leg game away from home.
United are bidding to become one of just five clubs who have won the European Cup (later became the Champions League), European Cup Winners’ Cup and Uefa Cup (later became the Europa League).
The Red Devils have reached the last 16 with relative ease after overcoming St Etienne 3-0 at Old Trafford and then 1-0 in the second leg.
Bundesliga sides Schalke and Borussia Monchengladbach have been drawn against each other for an intriguing contest, while French outfit Lyon host Italian giants AS Roma in their first leg.
The ties will take place on March 9 and 16.
