Central Bureau of Investigation has probed Badminton Association of India president Akhilesh Das Gupta and other office bearers of the Delhi Capital Badminton Association on charges of nepotism while selecting a team that went to Tokyo for the Youth Sports Exchange Programme in 2014, Hindustan Times reported.
The probe revealed that out of the 23 members of the team, seven were relatives of the office bearers including Gupta. Participants were selected without conducting any trials, the report added.
It further said that many of the participants had no experience of playing in regional or state level competitions, a major criteria for eligibility.
The CBI, however, has not initiated a criminal investigation, as they did not have a mandate. The case has since been referred to the sports ministry, the report stated.
