Arsenal will be without midfielder Mesut Ozil when they face Bayern Munich in their second-leg Champions League encounter at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday because of an illness. Arsenal have to turn around a 5-1 deficit against Bayern if they wish to progress to the next round. The Gunners need to score at least four goals against the German champions in the second leg, without conceding any.
Ozil missed Saturday’s 3-1 loss at Liverpool through illness. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said that the German is not ready to face Bayern. “Ozil is not in the squad, he only had one session and isn’t physically ready to be in the squad,” Wenger said. Ozil should be available for Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final clash against Lincoln.
Wenger also said that he is yet to decide whether to restore Alexis Sanchez to the starting line-up, after the Chilean was benched against Liverpool. Reports in the British media said that Wenger benched Sanchez because of a training ground bust-up, but the Frenchman denied it.
