Virat Kohli is “fit to play”, said teammate Umesh Yadav on Friday, assuaging fears over the injured India captain’s participation in the remainder of the crucial third Test against Australia in Ranchi.
Kohli went off the field on Thursday after landing awkwardly on his shoulder while diving to save a boundary. The 28-year-old did not take the field on Friday, as Ajinkya Rahane took over captaincy. Kohli was seen sitting in the dressing room with a bandage on his shoulder on Friday.
“Bandage will obviously remain after an injury, but I think he’s fit to play,” Yadav said, when asked about Kohli’s injury after the second day’s play. “The way he’s practicing at the nets it seems he’s all set to come back.”
According to a statement issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Thursday night, medical reports showed that there were no “serious concerns” with regard to Kohli’s shoulder injury.
India ended the second day on 120/1. They trail Australia by 331 runs, after the visitors posted 451 in their first innings, helped by centuries from Steve Smith (178*) and Glenn Maxwell (104).
