Pakistan Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq joined the chorus for life bans to imposed on cricketers found guilty of match fixing, AFP reported.
Reacting to the recent spot-fixing charges during the Pakistan Super League that rocked Pakistan cricket, Misbah called for stricter laws, something that veterans Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Hafeez had also urged the cricketing bodies to implement.
So far, Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif and pacer Mohammad Irfan have received provisional suspensions for an alleged involvement in the scandal.
“Obviously it’s disappointing and there should be a law that once you have done something wrong you should not return to this field again,” Misbah said.
The 43-year-old also stated that all the hard work that Pakistan had invested in rebuilding its image after the 2010 spot-fixing scandal in England, had gone down the drain. Misbah, who took over the reins in 2010, had taken his team to the summit of the International Cricket Council rankings last summer.
“We did our best to clean the game up and the seven years of hard work and our image is now spoilt to a great extent. You cannot afford this again and again,” he said.
