India’s Ravindra Jadeja went past Ravichandran Ashwin to become the No 1 Test bowler in the latest International Cricket Council Player Rankings for Test bowlers. Cheteshwar Pujara rose to a career-high second in the rankings for Test batsmen.
Jadeja displaced Ashwin from the top spot after taking nine wickets in the third Test against Australia in Ranchi that ended in a draw. The left-arm spinner, who grabbed 5/124 and 4/52 in the match, gained seven points after starting joint-first with Ashwin at 892 points and became the third Indian player after Ashwin and Bishan Singh Bedi to top the bowling charts.
The left-arm-spinner is also on the brink becoming only the second Indian bowler after Ashwin to touch the 900-point mark. Ashwin, who had a highest rating of 904 points, slipped 37 points behind Jadeja to finish at 862 points after managing to take only two wickets in the Ranchi Test.
Pujara too gained four spots to reach a career-best second ranking among the batsmen with 861 points. The Saurashtra batsman replaced New Zealand captain Kane Williamson who is now in fifth place. Joe Root and Virat Kohli occupied the third and fourth spots respectively. Australian captain Steve Smith remained No 1 and has reached a career-high rating of 941 points.
