Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, who is on the quest for his fourth world title after missing out last year, has decided to go without a personal trainer this Formula 1 season, reported BBC.
The three-time champion has taken over his own training programme this year as “a kind of challenge” he has set himself.
“Can you have the motivation to do it yourself and get ready and tone up, not having a trainer and be ready? I have,” Hamilton was quoted as saying by the BBC. He seemed happy with his new regime. “My discipline has definitely gone up in terms of my training and how specific I am with my diet,” he added.
Hamilton finished second at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix last week, behind Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, after starting on pole.
He also said that he has increased his physical preparations in order to match this year’s faster cars. This season, the F1 cars have become bulkier and wider, and would require greater strength from the drivers.
On being asked about his drive to win his fourth title, that he narrowly missed last year to former team mate Nico Rosberg, he said that he is ‘fit and ready’. “The hunger… while last year [I felt] the hunger couldn’t be any more, it has freakin’ doubled,” he said.
The next race will be in China on April 9. Ahead of the second race, Hamilton has gone home instead of staying in Asia, to get more rest. “I am going home, for example, after this. Usually I stay out in Asia [before the next race in China] but I am going home to get my head down, rest and make sure I come back fighting for the next race because I believe I can win,” he was quoted as saying.
