In what could potentially derail Premier League giants Liverpool’s push for a place in the top four, striker Sadio Mane may miss out of the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury during the weekend’s Merseyside derby, reported Telegraph.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently waiting for the results of a scan. A complete diagnosis is set to take place over the next 24 hours, and the club is unsure if the 24-year-old will be fit in time to play a part in Liverpool’s run-in during the next two months.
Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson is also likely to miss out for the rest of the season while midfielder Adam Lallana also suffered a thigh injury recently, which kept him out of his side’s 3-1 win over Everton.
Origi ‘ready’ to step up
Mane’s replacement during the weekend, Belgian striker Divock Origi, has stated that he is “ready” to fill in the big boots of Mane. Origi scored Liverpool’s third goal minutes after coming on, “I’m ready. I always said that I’m ready to be an important player for the team. I really believe it. I’m not just an option for the future, I’m an option for now,’ Origi said.“I want to do everything to get in the team. The coach has several choices and that is only good for the team. I hope I can play a big part in the end of the season,” he added.
The 21-year-old, recently, admitted to being frustrated by the lack of game time at Anfield, “I think I was a little bit frustrated, which is normal as you always want to play. In my career I’ve always turned it into hard work and just being willing to prove myself,” he said.
