Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has been reprimanded by the match referee for showing dissent during the Indian Premier League match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday in Mumbai, PTI reported.
Despite Sharma’s dismissal at a critical stage during the game, the home side romped home to a four-wicket victory on the back of Nitish Rana and Hardik Pandya’s heroics.
The 29-year-old had expressed his disappointment with the umpire’s decision to give him out leg-before-wicket off Sunil Narine’s bowling and angrily gestured that it was bat-pad, before walking back to the pavilion at the Wankhede Stadium. Replays showed Sharma was right – the ball had clearly hit his bat before crashing into his pad.
“Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai Indians captain, was reprimanded by the match referee for showing excessive, obvious disappointment with an umpire’s decision during his team’s contest against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium,” an Indian Premier League statement said.
“Mr Sharma admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.1.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials. For Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” it added.
