Oinam Bembem Devi, Jeje Lalpekhlua and Gurpreet Sandhu have been nominated for the prestigious Arjuna Award by the All India Football Federation, reported PTI on Tuesday. Bembem Devi, a legend in women’s football, retired from international football last year during the the South Asian Games in Shillong. She has represented India in 85 games and has scored 32 goals.
Along with Bembem, Lalpekhlua and Sandhu have also been nominated for the prestigious national award. Goalkeeper Sandhu is the only Indian to have played top-flight football in Europe. He currently plays for Norwegian top division club Stabaek.
AIFF Player of the Year Jeje is a key player in the national team and plays for I-League club Mohun Bagan who recently finished second. In the Indian Super League, he plays for Chennaiyin FC where he has scored 13 goals in 33 games. He has been in sublime form for India, scoring 17 goals in 38 games.
