Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has suffered ligament damage in his foot, which could keep him out of action till the start of next season, the Press Association reported. Shaw, 21, injured his foot during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Swansea City on Sunday and will see a specialist, the report added.

Shaw’s latest injury setback ends what has been a miserable season for the left-back. The Englishman suffered a double leg break at the start of the season and then had his focus and commitment questioned by manager Jose Mourinho when he returned from that injury.

Shaw joins United’s long injury list, which includes fellow defenders Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, midfielder Paul Pogba, and striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. While Shaw, Rojo and Ibrahimovic are certainly out for the season, the rest could return in this last stretch of the season, which could see United play as many as seven matches in 19 days.
