Sports Minister Vijay Goel met Robert Royte, president of the new I-League champions Aizawl FC on Thursday. During the meeting, the minister promised Royte funds to build a new stadium in the hill town in Mizoram, reported PTI.
Royte told the minister that while Aizawl FC is all set to play Asian football in the coming season, there is no standard football stadium in the state for hosting international matches.

In response, the minister told Royte that in recognition of Aizawl FC’s success, he would soon give funds to the state government of Mizoram to construct a stadium.
On the issue of the merger of I-League and ISL, Goel advised Royte to sit together with other I-League clubs and come to him with a concrete proposal.
This season, Aizawl FC created history when the club from Mizoram became the first football club from North East to win the I-League.
