India’s No 1 ranked men’s doubles player Rohan Bopanna and his Brazilian teammate Andre Sa reached the final of the AEGON International in Eastbourne after beating the Dutch-British duo of Robin Haase and Dominic Inglot 7-6(4), 3-6, 11-9 in the semi-finals on Friday.

Neither team faced any break point in the first set, which the Indo-Brazilian pair wrapped up 7-4 in the tie-break. In the second set, Bopanna and Sa faced four break points on their serve. But, while they saved three, they couldn’t save the fourth which helped Haase and Inglot take the second set into a tie-breaker.

Other than converting an opportune service break in the set, Haase and Inglot also saved the lone break point they faced on their serve in the set. In the consequent match tie-break, Bopanna and Sa fought off a tough challenge from Haase and Inglot to win the tie-break, and with it the match.

Bopanna and Sa won 76% of their first serves to their opponents’ 81%. They also won 63% points on their second serves to Haase and Inglot’s 64%. In total, Bopanna and Sa won 72 points to Haase and Inglot’s 64.

In the final, Bopanna and Sa will face fourth-ranked Bob and Mike Bryan, who beat the German-Argentine pair of Andres Begemann and Andre Molteni 7-6 (1), 6-4 in the other semi-final.
