As it turns out, four-time former Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel got away with a mere slap on the wrist for his purposeful dashing into the back of Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes at the Baku Grand Prix in June.
The German, who according to the International Automobile Federation, tendered an apology will only receive a 10-second penalising along with collecting a three-point penalty on his license. Needless to say then fans and viewers across the globe aren’t too happy about the superficiality of Vettel’s punishment by the FIA.
And there was no other place to vent their frustration than on Twitter, where their collective reactions took on a colourful form.
When sarcasm becomes the norm
The phrase sarcasm is the lowest form of wit looked to have been bypassed completely as several fans took to sarcasm to talk about their displeasure about the FIA’s decision.
So... when #Vettel turns up to lecture young racers, they'll see a 4x champ who rammed someone and got away with it !!!! #F1 #wetflannel

So if you drive for Ferrari you can try to run somebody off the track so long as you apologise afterwards. What a joke. #Vettel

@fia decision re #Vettel is disgracefully weak-must remember to write 'sorry' on insurance claim form if I have an accident @F1Photographer

The ‘shame, shame, shame’ factor
There were those who felt that Vettel’s behaviour was unbecoming of a champion, far more than the FIA’s decision on his gamesmanship.
Doesn't matter. All true #F1 fans who thought #Vettel was actually a decent bloke now see him for the petulant spoiled child he actually is.

So everytime Sebastian vettel does something wrong in F1 he 'sincerely' apologises and its all ok? #f1 #fia #Vettel #SkyF1

conspiracy!! Jean Todt offering preferential treatment to #Vettel as an ex-boss of @ScuderiaFerrari? I think not. Grow up.

The abysmal working of the FIA
Fans didn’t hesitate to spare the FIA as well, marking the authority just as culpable as the driver himself.
Congrats to @fia for making mockery of their #RoadSafety campaigns. No further action for #vettel - @JeanTodt once again bows to @Ferrari

This is poor from the FIA. What about driver safety being paramount? #TeamLH #Vettel #F1 #AzerbaijanGP #regulation #AthleteWelfare https://t.co/e0tEJhumdv

Rather surprised that no further action has been taken on #Vettel ..what if #Grosjean or #Maldonado would have done the same ? @F1 @fia
