India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan’s impressive recent run of form continued as he reached the final of the Winnetka Challenger on Friday, beating unseeded Tommy Paul 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
The fifth seed had his task cut out heading into the game as Paul had not dropped a set in his previous three encounters. The 22-year-old went behind, losing the first set but smarted from the setback remarkably with comfortable 6-3, 6-2 wins in the second and the third sets.
Ramkumar entered the last-four after beating Germany’s Dominik Koepfer in straights sets on Thursday, converting five out of 11 break points to register a 6-4, 6-3 win.
The Indian will face Japan’s Akira Santillian, who had beaten the experienced German, Matthias Bachinger 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in a closely contested semi-final.
