The new head coach of India’s men’s hockey team Sjoerd Marijne is looking forward to winning a lot of medals with the team. The Dutchman, who is currently in Netherlands with the women’s team, will take over the men’s squad once he returns.
Talking about his latest appointment, Marijne told a dutch website that he is looking forward to the challenge. “I know Indian hockey and the way in which they work in the country. After leaving Oltmans, they quickly knocked on me,” said Marijne.
This also gives him an opportunity to work with a senior men’s team in the international circuit. “I did not have to think for a long time, because with the men I get the chance to work in the international summit. It’s my goal to win tournaments in the next few years,” said Marijne.
Marijne was appointed as the head coach of the women’s hockey team in February, and penned a four-year contract. However, after the sacking of fellow countryman Roelant Oltamans, Marijne was appointed as the chief coach. Former India hockey player Harendra Singh will take over the women’s team. Marijne signed a contract until the 2020 Olympics.
