India’s domestic are set to receive a 100% increase in match fees at the end of a Board of Control for Cricket in India finance committee meet on Thursday in Mumbai. The pay structure of women cricketers will also be discussed and reviewed by the committee, reported Indian Express.
The stark disparity between the eye-watering sums earned by the international cricketers and their domestic counterparts is reported as a reason for the match fees being reviewed by the board. From the upcoming season, a player earning Rs 10,000 per day will be rewarded with Rs 20,000.
The finance committee is also planning to hike the pay structures of umpires, match referees and video analysts. “Whatever percentage hike domestic cricketers will get, same percentage hike will be given to match officials. For example, if players get 50 per cent hike per match day, then match officials too will get 50 per cent hike,” sources in the BCCI were reported as saying.
The women’s team’s extraordinary run during the World Cup has prompted BCCI to rework their pay scale. The players are paid just Rs 3,300 per game, a yawning gap compared to their male counterparts.
Recently, there was a proposal from BCCI’s game development manager Ratnakar Shetty to hike the match fees of the the Ranji Trophy from Rs 10,000 to Rs 40,000 in the wake of exorbitant contracts earned by players in the Indian Premier League. The report added it is highly unlikely that Shetty’s proposal will be given the go-ahead by the board.
