Gujarat Fortunegiants registered a 45-23 thrashing of U Mumba in the Pro Kabaddi League at Ranchi on Wednesday. Ranjit Chandran scored 11 raid points while Fazel Atrachali contributed with six tackle points to lead Gujarat-based side to a comfortable victory, PTI reported.

The game got off to a cagey start but Gujarat got a foothold in the game after they inflicted an all-out in the 13th minute to take a three-point lead in the game. Sachin’s two-point raid along with another all-out in the 20th minute helped the Supergiants march towards a 12-point lead at half-time. The Supergaints continued to dominate proceedings in the second half. Ranjit was picking up raid points with ease as U Mumba defence wilted under the regular onslaught of their opposition raiders.

Pirates sneak through

A spirited second half comeback helped Patna Pirates defeat Tamil Thalaivas by a slender 41-39 margin. The reigning champions were all at sea in the closing stages of the first half as Ajay Thakur was in fine form. Thalaivas ended the first-half on a memorable note as Thivakaran, with his raid, inflicted an all-out gave his side a five-point lead.

Pardeep Narwal, after reaching a whopping 200 points on Tuesday, struggled to find rhythm with his tackles, but played a crucial role in his side’s resurgence in the second period. Thakur, who ended the game with 11 points was kept quite by the Pirates’ defenders. Narwal’s four-point blitz turned the tide his team’s favour, and the defenders were at their resilient best to protect the lead.
