India are out of medal contention at the BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships after suffering a 0-3 loss to Malaysia in the quarterfinals on Thursday. India lost their mixed doubles, men’s singles and women’s singles encounters in straight games, ending their medal hopes.
Dhruv Kapila and Mithula UK were beaten by Eng Cheong Ng and Sueh Jeou Tan 18-21, 10-21 in the mixed doubles tie, before junior world No 2 Lakshya sen lost to the fifth-ranked Jun Hao Leong 13-21, 15-21.
The two defeats meant that India needed to win all their three remaining ties to progress. Junior world No 207 Ashmita Chaliha was up against the fourth-ranked Goh Jin Wei in the women’s singles, and she was beaten easily by the Malaysian 12-21, 12-21 to end India’s hopes.
India will next take on France in the fifth-eight position playoffs.
