India coach Ravi Shastri wants to arrange a training camp for the South Africa-bound Indian Test squad at Dharamsala, mid-day reported.
The seaming conditions during the first ODI convinced Shastri and the team management that the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association stadium would be an ideal venue for the players to train keeping the South African wickets in mind.
Shastri wants the players to train at the venue for at least a week before they leave for the tour. The team management believes the conditions would be ideal considering the seaming conditions prevalent in most venues at South Africa, the report added.
“Yes, coach Shastri and the team management are keen to have a short camp or at least organise a few training sessions for the Test players before leaving for South Africa,” an HPCA official was quoted as saying on condition of anonymity.
“They were encouraged with the conditions here because nowhere in India will they get pitches like these which are pretty close to what they will face in South Africa. We are ready and will be happy to host the players once we get instructions from the BCCI,” the official added.
