ATK have parted ways with their head coach Teddy Sheringham, the Indian Super League franchise announced in a release on Wednesday. The announcement comes barely 30 hours prior to the Kolkata-based outfit taking the field against high-flying Chennaiyin FC at home.
At the start of the season, former Manchester United and England forward Sheringham was unveiled as the ATK head coach amidst much fanfare. Unfortunately, results have not gone the Kolkata franchise’s way with the team lying eighth in the table.
The Sanjeev Goenka-owned franchise have 12 points to their name with just three wins from 10 games, and only one in their last four. ATK have also scored the lowest number of goals this season, tied with NorthEast United on seven as the two-time ISL champions have struggled to gel in attack.
Sheringham’s last match was against FC Pune City, who had defeated them 3-0 at the Balewadi Stadium. The same team had earlier put four goals past Sheringham’s team at the Salt Lake Stadium, earlier on in the season.
Former Bengaluru FC manager Ashley Westwood will take interim charge of the team. Westwood has two I-League titles with BFC to his name, in the 2013-’14 and the 2015-’16 seasons.
