India claimed the team gold in the men’s 10m air pistol while ISSF World Cup gold medallist Akhil Sheoran failed to qualify for the final in men’s 50m rifle three positions at the seventh World University Shooting Championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Indian team of Anmol Jain, Achal Pratap Singh Grewal and Nishant Sindhu shot a total score of 1725 to finish on top of the podium, ahead of Russia and South Korea.
However, they didn’t get in the top three in the individual pistol event. Jain finished sixth after qualifying for the finals with the second highest qualification score of 578. Grewal also qualified for the finals but was the first to be eliminated. Sindhu shot 571 to finish 13th.
Meanwhile, Sheoran, who won the gold in Mexico days back, finished as low as 33 from 38 participants.
The 22-year-old Akhil shot a below par qualification score of 1122, which is 42 points lower than what he had shot in Mexico. Navdeep Singh Rathore finished tenth with a score of 1157, narrowly missing the finals while Fateh Singh Dhillon finished 36th.
In women’s trap a day earlier, two Indian reached the final. Anam Basit and Soumya Gupta finished fifth and sixth, while the third Indian in the fray Aakriti Khapra finish ninth.
