Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen confirmed Friday on Twitter that he’s bringing down the curtains on his cricket career.

In his last innings, playing for the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League, he made a six-ball seven.

Later, on his Instagram account, he recounted his memorable achievements. “All dedicated to my family who have just been the most unreal supporters through thick & thin! I’m super proud of everything! Thank you for all the quite lovely msgs! I loved entertaining you all! Ciao, cricket! I love this game!” he’d written.

Pietersen, 37, had indicated last month that he’d retire as a professional cricketer after playing for Quetta Gladiators in the latest Pakistan Super League.

He’d posted a photo of him on Instagram, hugging his son before leaving to join the Gladiators in Dubai.

“I’ve hated every goodbye but also known it’s work so just gotten on with it,” Pietersen had said, hinting that the end is near.

“The journey has been absolutely amazing and for the next three/four weeks I’ll be a current professional and then it’s chapter closed! Had my time and loved it but the endless goodbyes and travel need to calm down now.”

Pietersen is England’s second highest run-scorer across all forms of the game. He was instrumental in some of England’s most famous wins, which includes The Ashes of 2005, the World T20 title in 2010 and the Test series in India in 2012-13.

His last match for England was the 2014 Test against Australia in Sydney.
