Post-match presentation:

Some banter between Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur about *that* catch!

Kaur: ‘She’s already angry with me for taking that catch! She’s a great batter, and I am glad I took it’
Mandhana: ‘I told her I am not going to Playstation with her for a few days for taking that catch!’

And the player of the match is Suzie Bates.

Ellyse Perry: “It was an incredible experience today. To play at the Wankhede was awesome. This is great for the health of the game. The IPL for women is the missing piece of the puzzle now.”

SUPERNOVAS WIN BY 3 WICKETS:

Ohhh! Jhulan Goswami drops it at short mid-wicket! That wasn’t a tough chance and the Supernovas sneak a single! A tie has been averted in dramatic style. Supernovas defeat Trailblazers by 3 wickets. An enjoyable match!

05:10 pm: Well, well. Dot ball to start the final over and off the next ball, Perry goes off strike. Young Pooja Vastrakar on strike, under pressure, gets a yorker from Suzie Bates. Dot ball again. 3 needed off 3 balls! Pooja goes off strike now. 2 needed from 2, Perry on strike.

Harmanpreet’s XI 126/7 after 19 overs - target 130

Ah, classy from Perry. Gets width from Ekta, puts it away past short-third for a boundary. Supernovas are almost home now. Off the last ball, Perry wants to steal a single. That’s poor running from Mona Mesharam! Mandhana with a brilliant direct hit but Mona did not ground her bat. Lazy.

Perry on strike though, with 4 needed off the last over.

Harmanpreet’s XI 120/6 after 18 overs - target 130

Jhulan with a four-run over! Finishes it with a yorker. And the nerves must just be starting to show up for Supernovas. Of course, Perry is on strike. Could change in a minute, with a couple of boundaries.

Harmanpreet’s XI 116/6 after 17 overs - target 130

Well, well, well. What do we have here? Veda Krishnamurthy and Harmanpreet Kaur are dismissed in the space of 5 balls. Kaur tries to go big against Bates but can only find the long on fielder. And suddenly, the Trailblazers sense an opportunity.

Supernovas need 14 off 18 balls.

Harmanpreet’s XI 112/5 after 16 overs - target 130

OUT! Veda Krishnamurthy, with the most Veda Krishnamurthy dismissal. Gives herself room and tries to paddle sweep Jhulan, of all people, and the veteran pacer is too accurate for that to work. Bowled around her legs. Just a little bit of interest creeping into this game now...

Ellyse Perry, who was enjoying a bit of bollywood dance earlier, is now out in the middle.

Harmanpreet’s XI 108/4 after 15 overs - target 130

OUT! Suzie Bates comes on to bowl and dismisses Devine, who went for one big shot too many. It’s full and straight from Bates and a case of ‘you-miss-I-hit’ as Devine goes for a cross-batted heave. Bit of a hiccup for Supernovas, but the chase still under control. Veda Krishnamurthy walks in. Kaur with a delicious cut shot earlier in that over for four.

Harmanpreet’s XI 100/3 after 14 overs - target 130

SIX! Sophie Devine with the third six of the innings (and match) and Supernovas have recovered nicely from those 3 quick wickets. It looks Devine now wants to show off her big-hitting skills and why not, we say. Deepti Sharma is the bowler she has targetted. Almost a stunning catch early in the over from keeper Healy running back, Devine with the reprieve.

Harmanpreet’s XI 90/3 after 13 overs - target 130

Great running between the wickets once again by Devine and Kaur and another easy 5-run over for Supernovas.

Harmanpreet’s XI 84/3 after 12 overs - target 130

Another steady over for the Supernovas, doing this in singles and tows. 4 from Ekta Bisht’s over.

And if you are wondering why Devine is batting ahead of someone like Perry, here; you go...

Harmanpreet’s XI 81/3 after 11 overs - target 130

Sensible batting from Devine and Kaur, just rotating the strike given the req’d rate is well under control. Risk-free 7 run over off Yadav.

Harmanpreet’s XI 74/3 after 10 overs - need 56 from 60 balls

Supernovas just under a bit of pressure here. Sophie Devine is the new batter in, and she is almost run-out trying to steal a single. Healy just couldn’t gather the throw cleanly. Just 3 from Bisht’s over.

Harmanpreet’s XI 71/3 after 9 overs.

Lanning gone! Well, well. Is there a twist in the tale here? Poonam Yadav again, teasing Lanning with the flight and the Aussie star finds Jemimah at long off. It seemed she timed it well enough but the elevation was missing.

Harmanpreet’s XI 69/2 after 8 overs.

Dani Hazell (remember her, from that brilliant ball she bowled to Mithali during England’s tour of India?) comes on and her off-spinners are picked away easily by Meg Lanning. Two boundaries to start off that over, 11 from it.

Harmanpreet’s XI 58/2 after 7 overs.

Poonam Yadav’s lack of pace accounts for the wicket of the dangerous Danni Wyatt. Tossed up, but wide of offfstump. The previous ball was straighter and Wyatt was able to put it straight back down the ground for four. This one, Wyatt has to reach out for and she finds Mooney at long on. Can Trailblazers sneak back into this match?

Harmanpreet’s XI 51/1 after 6 overs - end of powerplay

OUT! It was looking all too easy for Supernovas for a while there, Ekta Bisht gets breakthrough though. Mithali hits a low full toss straight to midwicket. No respite for Trailblazers though, out walks Meg Lanning. And gets going with an exquisite punch through cover for four. The over started with a SIX for Danni Wyatt, going inside out with the spin. Super shot.

Harmanpreet’s XI 40/0 after 5 overs

SIX! The owner of many a first in Indian cricket, Mithali Raj fittingly hits the first six of the match with a lofted drive over long on. That was all timing! Full ball from Shikha Pandey and she swings through the line and clears the boundary with ease. Follows that up with a square drive, uppish, past point. Whaddaplaya.

Harmanpreet’s XI 29/0 after 4 overs

This is a solid start now. Wyatt takes on Tahuhu, pulls over midwicket for four and then collects three with a inside edge to vacant square leg region.

Harmanpreet’s XI 18/0 after 3 overs

Nearly another stunning catch to add to the list we have already - Beth Mooney backtracking from mid-on puts in a proper dive but the ball is out of her reach. Raj plays a lofted off drive for a couple. And another instance of Wyatt wanting a single but Raj not interested. A run-out is in the offing here...

Harmanpreet’s XI 11/0 after 2 overs

Two wides from Lea Tahuhu but just a single otherwise in that over. Wyatt wanted a couple of quick singles but Mithali wasn’t too keen.

Harmanpreet’s XI 8/0 after 1 over

Couple of boundaries for Mithali Raj to start things off - one an exquisite cover drive, one a streaky inside edge to fine leg. That cover drive was all class, the way she leaned to it and caressed it past the fielders in the ring.

03:45 pm: Mithali Raj, Danni Wyatt, Meg Lanning, Harmanpreet Kaur, Ellyse Perry - that’s one heck of a batting lineup! Can Trailblazers defend 130? Jhulan to bowl to Mithali to start off...

End of the innings - Trailblazers 129/6 after 20 overs

Smriti Mandhana’s Trailblazers recover decently after losing early wickets to post 129/6 in their 20 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues and Suzie Bates with an useful 5th-wicket stand. Jemimah reckons this is a slow wicket and 130 is defendable. Join us shortly for the run-chase as a star-studded Supernova batting lineup take the field.

Mandhana’s XI 124/6 after 19 overs

OUT! A fighting innings in the heat by White Ferns skipper Suzie Bates comes to an end, bowled by a slower ball from Perry. The boundaries were tough to come, but she kept the scoreboard ticking. She tried to play a lob over short fine leg, but gave away her intentions too soon and Perry bowls a slower one at the stump.

Good over for Trailblazers otherwise though, 11 from it thanks a boundary from Pandey off the first ball and a four byes early in the over.

Mandhana’s XI 113/5 after 18 overs

Harmanpreet comes on to bowl herself. Another great piece of fielding by Veda Krishnamurthy at mid-off, a diving save to keep it to a single. How good has she been on the field today! Six from that over.

Perry comes on, Trailblazers need a big couple of overs.

Mandhana’s XI 107/5 after 17 overs

Just four runs from that Gayakwad over. Bates continues to rotate the strike, showing her experience. She’s into the 30s. Knows she’s unable to find the boundaries, but at least keeps the scoreboard ticking. Shikha Pandey out in the middle with her.

Mandhana’s XI 103/5 after 15 overs

OUT! After a good (albeit chance-filled) cameo, Jemimah Rodrigues falls to another spectacular catch, this time Ellyse Perry - what an athlete! What a wonderful athlete. Runs in from long on, puts the dive in and tumbles, to complete a beauty. Patil gets the wicket. The crowd applaud the catch despite the player being dismissed one of their own.

Mandhana’s XI 94/4 after 15 overs

Jemimah is playing with the freedom of the batter who who has had a couple of reprieves. After singles and a double of Devine’s first five balls, Jemimah plays an elegant lobbed sweep over fine leg for four. 9 from it.

Mandhana’s XI 85/4 after 14 overs

ANOTHER REPRIEVE FOR JEMIMAH! Would Sophie Devine ever get a simpler catch? We doubt. Jemimah top edges the sweep off Gayakwad, loops in the air, and it’s a sitter that is put down. Devine puts her hand up immediately. I’d venture to say that it was the heat that led to loss of focus. (It’s 3 pm in May in Mumbai!)

Mandhana’s XI 80/4 after 13 overs

Bates and Jemimah are trying to up the ante, you could see that in how hard they are trying to hit the ball but are unable to find the boundaries. And another bad call from the umpire - huge appeal by Anuja and keeper Taniya Bhatia as Jemimah tried to cut one. There was a faint noise, replays show a feather off the bat!

Mandhana’s XI 76/4 after 12 overs

Sophie Devine comes on for her first over, her slow medium pace predictably proving difficult to put away for Both Jemimah and Bates. 5 from that over.

Mandhana’s XI 71/4 after 11 overs

A dropped catch! Was that Meg Lanning? It was Meg Lanning! You don’t see that very often. Bates with a lifeline off Vastrakar’s bowling, as she clips one to midwicket where the Aussie star puts a low catch down. The Kiwi played a lovely lofted straight drive before that for four.

Mandhana’s XI 65/4 after 10 overs

Young Jemimah out in the middle at her home ground. What a moment for her. She gets going with a boundary, glanced to the fine leg for four off Perry.

Mandhana’s XI 58/4 after 9 overs

OUT! Another wicket for Supernovas and it’s Deepti Sharma who was looking in good touch for the Trailblazers. Just as she was trying to accelerate the scoring rate, she’s gone. A soft dismissal, as she lobs one to Kaur at midwicket off Gayakwad.

Mandhana’s XI 50/3 after 8 overs

Pooja Vastrakar, one of the finds of the home seasons for India, comes in to bowl and concedes just 3 in that first over of hers. Michael Slater reckons Suzie Bates is struggling to adjust to the two-paced nature of the pitch.

Mandhana’s XI 47/3 after 7 overs

Time for the slow left arm of Rajeshwari Gayakwad, just four singles off the overs.

The commentators are still in shock about the no-ball that was not given... truly, truly bizarre umpiring.

End of powerplay, Mandhana’s XI 43/3:

Just one boundary in the final over of the powerplay, Deepti getting a boundary over fine leg for four.

Mandhana’s XI, 38/3 after 5 overs

A good over for Trailblazers after a series of wickets. A boundary each for Deepti Sharma and White Ferns star for Suzie Bates. They needed this to break the shackles.

Mandhana’s XI, 29/3 after 4 overs.

CONTROVERSY! Wow. Even Megan Schutt can’t believe she’s got a wicket against her name. OUT! Controversy. Schutt gets Mooney caught at mid-on (a good take by Veda Krishnamurthy this time) but it looked like she had clearly overstepped! What was the third umpire watching? BIZARRE! Beth Mooney is gone and Trailblazers are in deep trouble.

Mandhana’s XI, 25/2 after 3 overs:

Smriti Mandhana gone and what a catch by captain Harmanpreet Kaur! A stunner at mid-on. Smriti can’t get the elevation off Perry and it’s an absolutely sensational take by Kaur. Smriti was looking in fantastic touch, started this over with a late cut again for four. Big wicket.

Take a look at that dive..

Mandhana’s XI, 17/1 after 2 overs:

Breakthrough for Supernovas! That didn’t take long. Megan Schutt, the Aussie spearhead, gets her counterpart out, the dangerous Alyssa Healy is walking back early. Schutt took pace off the ball seemingly, Healy tries to cut it over the infield but finds Wyatt at cover. Big wicket for Supernovas.

That over started with the most elegant late cut by Mandhana for four though but she was also dropped at point. Eventful start.

Mandhana’s XI, 12/0 after 1 over:

Good start for the Trailblazers. Alyssa Healy, who had a good tour with the Australian team, gets going with a cut past point for four as Anuja Patil goes short first up. Mandhana finishes that over with a sweep for four as well.

02:00 pm: Alright we are all set! Supernovas to get the ball rolling with Anuja Patil. Smriti Mandhana and Alyssa Healy are out in the middle for Trailblazers.

01:58 pm: One of the criticisms of this admittedly good move to have a game during the IPL was the timing of this match. 2 pm on a weekday wasn’t the most ideal option, and it looks like the turnout has been impacted by that. On first glance, the Wankhede seems rather empty. Hope that changes in due course.

01:55 pm: In case you are wondering the match is being telecast by Star India, live on Star Sports 1 SD and HD. If you are unable to watch, you can follow our blog for all the updates.

01:50 pm: Virat Kohli had a message for the teams, and especially the captains, ahead of the match.

01:45 pm: ‘You get to play with the best and against the best, so its a chance to improve our standard,’ says Mithali Raj.

Here’s what some of the other cricketers said about the game.

01:35 pm: A visibly proud Anjum Chopra, one of the forerunners of the women’s game in India, is out with the captains for the toss. Harmanpreet, captain of Supernovas in blue, wins the toss and opts to bowl first.

1.30 pm: Good afternoon and welcome to The Field’s live blog for the exhibition match between IPL Trailblazers and IPL Supernovas at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.

This is an exhibition Twenty20 match featuring some of the best women cricketers in the world in teams led by India stars Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana.

International stars like Meg Lanning, Suzie Bates, Alyssa Healy, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt and Danielle Wyatt will be part of the game, which will take place before the IPL Qualifier 1 between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
