India coach Ravi Shastri clarified his stand on the controversy surrounding the YoYo test, stating that the it was here to stay and will be mandatory for every series.
The team management’s decision to drop Mohammed Shami and Ambati Rayudu after their failure to pass the test has drawn flak from ex-cricketers as the decision was taken after they were named in the squad for India’s forthcoming tour of England.
“The Yo-Yo Test is here to stay. If you can pass it, well and good. If not, you can take a walk. There is no room for error. The captain is leading from the front,” said Shastri.
The Virat Kohli-led team will depart for the United Kingdom to play two T20Is against Ireland from June 27 which will be followed by three T20Is, three one-day games and five Test matches against England.
Ahead of their departure, skipper Kohli said that the long break after Indian Premier League (IPL) has helped him rejuvenate and get ready for the long tour. Along with coach Shastri, India will be looking to win their first series since 2007 on English soil.
“I am 100 percent ready to go. I have had a good practice. Body is feeling fine. These sort of breaks really help and keep you mentally fresh,” said Kohli in India’s pre-departure press conference in Delhi on Friday.
