After plying their trade for the Canada T20 league, Australian cricketers Steve Smith and David Warner are now heading to West Indies to play in the Caribbean Premier League, reported cricket.com.au on Wednesday.

Former Australia captain Smith will join Barbados Tridents, which feature the likes of New Zealand opener Martin Guptill and South Africa star Hashim Amla. The team is being led by West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder.

Warner has replaced Australia’s D’Arcy Short for the St Lucia Stars. Short opted out after he was selected in the Australia A one-day squad that will play a quadrangular series in India next month.

Smith and Warner are currently serving a 12-month ban for his role during the ball tampering incident in South Africa in March. Other Australians in this year’s CPL include Chris Lynn, Ben Cutting and Tom Cooper.

The CPL tournament runs from August 8 to September 16. Smith’s Barbados side will meet Warner’s St Lucia team on August 17 and September 2.
