Eknath Shinde takes oath as chief minister of Maharashtra
Devendra Fadnavis will be the deputy chief minister of the state.
Shiv Sena MLA Eknath Shinde on Thursday took oath as the chief minister of Maharashtra. Bharatiya Janata Party’s Devendra Fadnavis has been appointed as the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra.
The two leaders had met Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari to stake claim to form the government after holding a meeting in Mumbai.
Earlier in the day, rebel leader Deepak Kesarkar had told mediapersons that the mandate in the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections was for a Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena government, and not for the Nationalist Congress Party or the Congress.
He had added that Fadnavis would decide when the oath-taking ceremony will be held.
On Wednesday, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray had resigned as the Maharashtra chief minister. This was after the Supreme Court rejected the Shiv Sena’s plea against Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari’s decision asking the Uddhav Thackeray-led government to face a floor test to prove its majority in the state Assembly on Thursday.
