Police teams shot a masked man who injured four children and killed a teacher with a sharp weapon at a school in Trollhattan, an industrial town in south-west Sweden on Thursday. It is unclear whether he used a sword or a long knife. The attacker was taken to hospital, where he is being treated for gunshot wounds, officials said.

Students and staff locked themselves in classrooms and cupboards to escape the man, who is suspected to be in his 20s. Police told the Associated Press that he was carrying multiple weapons, one of which was a "knife-like object". Around 400 children are reportedly enrolled in the school.
