US asks Pakistan not to discriminate between terror groups
In a 90-minute meeting at the White House, Barack Obama and Nawaz Sharif also committed to continue their bilateral counterterrorism cooperation.
US President Barack Obama told Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that his country should not discriminate between terrorist groups, the White House said. Obama reportedly asserted the importance of Pakistan taking effective action against terrorists that seek to undermine peaceful dialogue and destabilise the region. According to US officials, Pakistan has only targeted terrorist groups that attacked the state.
In a 90-minute meeting at the White House, Obama and Sharif also committed to continue bilateral counterterrorism cooperation. A US State Department spokesperson said, "The visit [of Sharif] overall highlighted our strong and growing relationship with Pakistan, and frankly, provided an opportunity to strengthen our cooperation on a range of issues.”
