President Droupadi Murmu on Monday appointed new governors for Haryana and Goa and a new lieutenant governor for Ladakh.

Kavinder Gupta, the former deputy chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has been appointed the lieutenant governor of Ladakh, stated the President’s Secretariat.

Murmu has accepted the resignation of Brigadier BD Mishra, who previously held the post.

Gupta, a Bharatiya Janata Party leader and longtime member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, has served as the elected mayor of Jammu for three consecutive terms. He held the post of deputy chief minister in Jammu and Kashmir in 2018 for 51 days.

Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, a Telugu Desam Party leader, will take over as the governor of Goa.

Raju has held office at both the state and national levels and served as the Union civil aviation minister in Narendra Modi’s first Cabinet. He resigned in 2018 over the issue of special status for Andhra Pradesh.

Ashim Kumar Ghosh has been named as the governor of Haryana.

Ghosh served as chief of the BJP’s West Bengal unit from 1992 to 2002 and is credited with expanding the party’s grassroots presence in the state. He has also served as the BJP’s observer for Tripura.

“The above appointments will take effect from the dates they will assume charge of their respective offices,” the President’s Secretariat said.
