Muharram processions in Jharkhand and Bihar were hit by violence on Saturday night, killing one and injuring 12 people. Clashes broke out in Hazaribagh district, Jharkhand, over the use of a route for a procession to Gwalior. Hazaribagh Deputy Commissioner of Police Mukesh Kumar said they had to fire 70 rounds in the air and use teargas to disperse the mobs, which began pelting stones at each other. A curfew was imposed in the area after the incident. In a separate incident, three people were injured in Madhubani, Bihar after two groups started sparring when someone threw a stone at a taziya (tableaux), a traditional part of Muharram proceedings.
