South Africa smash India by 214 runs, clinch ODI series 3-2
Set a colossal target of 439 to win the fifth one-dayer and the series, the hosts were bowled out for just 224 in 36 overs.
South Africa scored a mammoth 438 runs batting first in the fifth and final match of the one-day series against India played at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, eventually beating the hosts by 214 runs. The visitors amassed the highest score by any team on Indian soil and the third-highest overall in One-Day Internationals, thanks to centuries from Quinton de Kock (109), Faf du Plessis (133 retired hurt) and AB de Villiers (119). Set 439 to win at a run rate of close to nine an over, India lost the chase in 36 overs after being bowled out for 224. Ajinkya Rahane top-scored for the hosts with 87.
Doing so, South Africa won their first ever bilateral ODI series in India. Captain De Villiers was adjudged the man of the series for compiling 358 runs in five matches, including three centuries. The two teams will now play four Test matches against each other, beginning November 5.
