Dawood Ibrahim not in Pakistan, says high commissioner Abdul Basit
He also said that India is a big country and has more responsibilities on its shoulders to put an end to terrorism.
Pakistan High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit on Wednesday asserted that his country was not hiding fugitive underworld gangster Dawood Ibrahim. Responding to a question at an event in Bangalore, Basit denied India’s claims of Ibrahim residing in Karachi and said, "Even your government is not sure about his whereabouts." Ibrahim is the main accused in the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai.
Basit also said that while Pakistan believes that Jamat-ud-Dawa – the political arm of the terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba – is a “largely philanthropic organisation”, the country is keeping tabs on its activities.
The high commissioner said that India is a big country and, therefore, has more responsibilities on its shoulders to put an end to violence and terrorism. He added that Pakistan is ready to engage with India with sincerity and seriousness of purpose, reported the Press Trust of India.
