In a blow to the Aam Aadmi Party government, the Delhi High Court on Friday upheld the pleas of three private electricity distribution companies against an audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General. The Delhi government had told the court that a CAG audit of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd, BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd and BSES Yamuna Power Ltd was necessary as the companies discharged "public function" and claimed that they were overcharging consumers.

Following the upholding of the pleas, the AAP government said it will file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the high court's decision. The Delhi government holds a 49% stake in the distribution companies.
