Separatist leaders in Jammu and Kashmir detained ahead of Modi's visit
A huge protest march has been planned for November 7, the day the prime minister is expected to address a rally in Srinagar.
The Jammu and Kashmir police launched a crackdown on separatist leaders and activists across the state in a bid to stop a protest planned for November 7, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a rally in Srinagar. The police detained dozens of people and blocked pages on social networking sites that promoted the ‘Million Men March’, which Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani had called for, “to show the world that [their] land has been illegally occupied”, Rising Kashmir reported.
According to The India Express, The People’s Democratic Party leadership expects Modi to announce a massive flood relief package at the rally. On Saturday night, the police detained Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front leader Yasin Malik and Democratic Freedom Party Shabir Shah, in addition to several activists from the Hurriyat (G).
