Depressed Bengaluru man injures 24 with a sword, shot dead by police
The police received a call saying the IT professional was walking the streets and slashing at anyone in his path.
A 25-year-old IT professional who was being treated for depression went on a rampage on the streets of Bengaluru on Tuesday, injuring 24 people including his father with a sword, before the police shot him. He died on his way to the hospital. Balvinder Singh was undergoing psychiatric treatment for depression after failing in the civil services examination, the Hindustan Times reported. He worked with a multinational firm in the city and lived with his parents.
According to the police, they got a call in the morning from the Laxmi Nagar area saying a man on the street was slashing everyone in his path with a sword. When the police reached there, he tried to attack them as well and attempted to steal one of their pistols. The officer had no choice but to shoot him, L Subbarayudu, additional SP (operations), Karimnagar told the Hindustan Times.
Witnesses said Singh also injured himself with the sword and damaged a car parked nearby. His mother is in shock and his father is severely injured, added PTI.
