An Islamic State militant shot his mother dead in public after she asked him to leave the group, according to activists. BBC on Friday reported eyewitnesses saying that 21-year-old Ali Saqr killed his mother, 45-year-old Lena al-Qasem, outside the post office in Syria’s Raqqa city in front of hundreds of people.

The incident was reported by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and activist group Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently. Lena reportedly told Ali that IS would be “wiped out” by the United States-led military alliance and tried to convince him to leave the city with her. Ali then informed the militant group of her comments, which then ordered him to kill her.

IS is not tolerant towards any form of opposition and is known for imposing inhuman punishments, often in public.
