The Bihar government has included the samosa in a list of "luxury items" that will now attract a tax of 13.5% to fund development work. The list also includes the kachori, salted snacks, sweets priced above Rs 500 a kilo and mosquito repellent, reported NDTV. The decision was taken during a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Other items on the list include auto parts, battery parts, sand, cosmetics, perfumes and hair oil. The cabinet also decided to consider providing a Non Professional Allowance to doctors who teach in medical colleges and super specialty hospitals in a bid to ban private practice, the report said.
