Bomb attack at Turkey police headquarters kills five
Officials said Kurdish militants were behind the violence that has left at least 39 civilians injured.
Five people were killed and 39 injured in a car bomb attack on a police station in Cinar district, in south eastern Turkey on Thursday. The incident followed a suicide attack in Istanbul’s Sultanahmet Square that killed ten people on Wednesday. While Tuesday’s attack has been blamed on the Islamic State, the attack on the police station was carried out by Kurdish militants from the Kurdistan Worker’s Party. Reports said that PKK rebels set off a bomb at the entrance of the station and attacked it with firearms and rockets.
A baby is among those who were killed, and officials say the number of casualties could rise further. Diyarbakir province has witnessed clashes between Kurdish rebels and the Turkish army recently. The PKK has not claimed the attack yet, but officials are sure the group orchestrated it. Kurdish rebels have been fighting for autonomy and rights since 1984, in a conflict that has left many thousands dead, The Guardian reported.
