Google, in partnership with the Indian Railways, launched its free high-speed public Wi-Fi service at Mumbai Central railway station on Friday. It is now the first railway station in the country to get such a facility. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, who was present at the launch, said that 100 of the busiest stations across the country will be brought under the "world-class" service by the end of 2016.

Calling it a "historic day", the Union minister said that his government was trying hard to develop sustainable infrastructure, along with improving the safety and security of the passengers and bringing financial stability to the entity.

In a statement issued later, Google said the four stations where the free Wi-Fi facility would be provided soon are Allahabad, Patna, Jaipur and Ranchi. Other stations will get the facility "very shortly", it said.
