Pakistani man sentenced to 10 years in jail for being a Virat Kohli fan, hoisting Indian flag
Umar Draz insisted he did not know he was doing something illegal and was only showing his support for the Indian cricket team.
A Pakistani fan of Indian cricketer Virat Kohli was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment on Thursday. Umar Draz was arrested on Wednesday for hoisting the Indian flag atop his home in Pakistan’s Punjab province while watching the India-Australia T20 match.
The 22-year-old said he had hoisted the flag as a declaration of his support for Kohli and the Indian cricket team, and did not know he was doing something illegal, PTI reported. The police registered a case under section 123-A of the Pakistan Penal Code (acts of damaging the sovereignty of the country), which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in jail or a fine or both.
